About me

Dr. Matilda Chan is an ophthalmologist who specializes in caring for adults with infectious and inflammatory diseases of the ocular surface and eyelids. She treats patients with dry eye syndrome, blepharitis (eyelid inflammation that can affect tear production), meibomian gland dysfunction (a blockage that can cause dry eyes), Sjӧgren's syndrome (an autoimmune disorder that causes dry eyes), and corneal ulcers.

In her research, Chan is exploring the underlying causes of corneal opacification (scarring or clouding of the cornea that affects vision) and Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (a disease in which corneal swelling and clouding causes a gradual decline in vision). She is working to develop new ways to treat corneal blindness.

Chan earned her medical degree and doctoral degree in biochemistry at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. She completed her residency in ophthalmology at the University of Rochester Flaum Eye Institute, and a fellowship in cornea and external disease at UCSF.

Chan belongs to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, International Society for Eye Research and Women In Ophthalmology.

Dr Chan was fantastic. After seeing so many optometrists and being on treatments that haven't worked to improve my dry eyes for the past two years she was able to put me on a regimen that I'm hoping will make a difference. She explained her reasoning and scheduled close follow up. Ensured she would send her note to my local optometrist so they are in the loop.

I drive 4 hours 1 way to get the A team. The healthcare where I live is often dreadful, but we have some good surgeons . Very weak on diagnosis and keeping up with current medical news and treatment options

I recommend Dr. Chan she is very kind, able to understand me, very kind, very knowledgeable, patient is an exceptional doctor the best I have had in many years, I am very happy to be her patient and be under her care. Thank you for having Dr. Chan in this institution, because you give us the opportunity to have a caregiver who cares about us patients. Apart from being very intelligent, she is very kind, respectful and has a lot of knowledge of the problems I suffer from my eyes. Thank you so much for letting her take care of me
