Dr. Michael Mann is a cardiothoracic surgeon with particular interests in coronary bypass surgery, valve disease, aortic reconstruction, surgery for heart failure and thoracic cancer.

Mann's research interests include developing molecular therapies – treatments that target specific cells involved in disease – for disorders of the heart and lungs. While on the faculty at Harvard Medical School, he designed and directed the first clinical program for genetic manipulation during bypass surgery.

Mann earned his medical degree at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He completed a residency at Stanford Medicine and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, followed by a fellowship at UCSF.

My surgeon Dr. Mann is excellent. He shows empathy when he talks to me and seemed to take care of me in the least invasive way possible. My only constructive feedback is that I was not prepared for the post surgical nerve pain I have been experiencing. The Dr. Did warn me about post surgical pain but I assumed it was just because of the incisions. He also told me that I would have inflamatory pain. I just didn't really understand what this would be. I would have liked to be better prepared for the nerve pain that Is felt around the rib cage and Is slow to resolve.

Would have preferred a more formal list of "next steps". Who was to do what, by when. The details in MyChart, the AVS and/or the Visit Notes are not clear as to what happens next
