Michelle Albert, MD, MPH

Dr. Michelle A. Albert is a general cardiologist with expertise in preventive cardiovascular medicine. She also specializes in managing the most critically ill cardiovascular patients, with conditions including coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease and cardiomyopathies.

Albert earned her medical degree at the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry. She completed her residency at Columbia University, followed by cardiovascular clinical and research fellowships at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School. She also earned a master's degree in public health, with concentrations in epidemiology and clinical effectiveness, from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Albert is founding director of the UCSF Center for the Study of Adversity and Cardiovascular Disease, also called the NURTURE Center. The center investigates the physiological manifestations of adversity – for example, how stress affects the brain and how these changes may affect the heart – and develops interventions to prevent and treat disease.
