About me

Sarah L. Schneider is speech-language pathology director at the UCSF Voice and Swallowing Center, whose program she helped develop after joining the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery in 2007. With particular expertise in the professional speaking and singing voice, she evaluates and treats all conditions related to voice.

Schneider is active in several research projects at the center and also works as a voice research consultant outside of UCSF.

Schneider earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees at Marquette University, receiving the Alfred J. Sokolnicki Clinical Excellence Award at both commencement ceremonies. She completed a clinical fellowship at the Vanderbilt Voice Center and continued to work there afterward. She has earned a certificate of clinical competence in speech-language pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

Prior to joining UCSF, Schneider worked in the private practice of eminent otolaryngologist Robert T. Sataloff in Philadelphia, while continuing to establish herself as a voice clinician.

A leader in coordinating voice conferences and other educational activities, Schneider has studied voice privately and performed as a soloist in choral settings and musical theater. This experience helps guide her clinical practice. Her professional affiliations include ASHA, ASHA's special interest groups in voice and voice disorders as well as telecommunications care services, and the California Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She sits on the editorial board for the Journal of Voice and speaks regularly to local, national and international audiences on vocal health and rehabilitation.
