Medical Director, Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Dr. Mitul Kapadia directs the UCSF Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic. He is a pediatric physiatrist, specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation for infants, children and adolescents. He treats disabling conditions such as may result from brain and spinal cord injuries, rheumatologic disorders, amputations or limb deficiencies, cancer, neurologic conditions or musculoskeletal conditions. He has a special interest in sports medicine and concussion management in young athletes.

Kapadia's research interests include global health, particularly in the developing world.

Kapadia earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He completed a residency in pediatrics as well as a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals. He earned certification in structural acupuncture for physicians from Harvard University, and he adapts acupuncture techniques to treat patients with various ailments. He also has a master of science degree in international health policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Kapadia is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Kapadia has received numerous awards for his teaching, and he has provided pediatric medical care in other countries, including India, Nepal, Botswana, Ecuador and Haiti.
