Our sports medicine services
Our experienced sports medicine team tailors care to your goals, physical activity level and preferences. We offer:
Diagnostic services. We accurately assess your injury using diagnostic tools, including X-rays, MRI or CT scans, blood tests or specialized imaging such as bone scans. These technologies help us pinpoint the cause of the pain and create an effective recovery plan.
Preventive care. Sports medicine physicians help you stay safe and active with injury prevention protocols. We also offer baseline testing – performed before you begin an activity – to help guide treatment if an injury occurs.
Nonsurgical treatments. We can often treat activity-related injuries using nonsurgical treatments, such as anti-inflammatory medications and supportive braces. We may recommend orthobiologic treatments, such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections.
Physical therapy. Experienced physical therapists use a variety of exercises and techniques to help you return to your activity, reduce pain and recover from surgery.
Surgical treatments. UCSF Health's orthopedic surgeons treat joint injuries and other activity-related conditions using arthroscopy. These minimally invasive procedures often have a shorter recovery time.
Hip and meniscus preservation
We offer expert care for people with hip and meniscus injuries and conditions. You get tailored treatments and strategies to repair, restore and preserve your function.
Specialized athletic clinics
We offer athlete-specific services for:
Female-identifying athletes. The UCSF Health Women's Sports Medicine Program provides specialized care for female athletes. It is the first program in the Bay Area dedicated exclusively to their needs.
Runners. Whether you're a daily jogger or a competitive runner, we can help enhance your performance. The UCSF Health RunSafe Program offers running assessments and expert recommendations to help you prevent injury and run your best.
