Dr. James Li is an optometrist who focuses on restoring visual function to patients with complex ocular surface diseases or conditions that result in a distorted corneal surface. He specializes in fitting specialty contact lenses as well as devices for a treatment called prosthetic replacement of the ocular surface ecosystem (PROSE), which can improve vision, protect the ocular surface and promote healing in patients with complex corneal disease or patients with dry eye. He also offers a treatment called EyePrintPRO, a process for creating specialized contact lenses using scans or impressions of a patient's eye for a customized fit.

Li has worked on clinical trials for contact lenses and intraocular lenses, and contributed to research on ophthalmic equipment and contact lens design.

Li earned his doctor of optometry degree and a master's degree in vision science from the State University of New York College of Optometry. He then completed a fellowship in cornea and contact lenses at SUNY College of Optometry. He has also completed the BostonSight PROSE Clinical Fellowship at the Boston Foundation for Sight.

Li is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and Scleral Lens Education Society.

A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Li previously worked in a specialty contact lens private practice in New York City and an ophthalmology practice in Fremont, and has done research in New York City and South San Francisco. In his free time, he enjoys running, rock climbing, hiking and other outdoor activities.
