Dr. Anne M. Suskind is a urologist and a specialist in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery. She has special interests in urinary incontinence, complications with vaginal mesh (surgically implanted mesh that supports weak areas of the vagina, urethra or bladder), urinary fistulas, overactive bladder, bladder dysfunction due to neurologic disease and other forms of lower urinary tract dysfunction.

Suskind's approach to managing these conditions integrates surgical and nonsurgical methods, including physical therapy to strengthen the pelvic floor, medications, Botox injections for the bladder, urethral injections for stress urinary incontinence, various nerve stimulation techniques and complex urinary surgical reconstruction. To treat stress urinary incontinence in female patients, she offers different types of surgically placed slings (supportive structures that prevent the urethra from accidentally passing urine). She has extensive experience in urodynamic testing, which assesses how well the bladder and urethra function, and in interpreting the test results.

The ultimate goal of Suskind's research is to improve care for unique and vulnerable older patients. She studies treatment outcomes in older adults who are frail and have urologic conditions, with a particular interest in understanding the unintended consequences associated with what are considered relatively minor urologic procedures. Her research leverages large national databases, such as Medicare claims data, to understand the impact of various urologic treatments for older patients throughout the country. Her research has won many national awards.

Suskind earned her bachelor's degree at Haverford College, where she investigated the anthropological influences surrounding women's health issues and graduated with honors. She earned her medical degree from Albany Medical College, where she graduated with distinction in bioethics. She completed a residency in urology at the University of Connecticut. She completed a fellowship in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery (FPMRS) and a fellowship in health services research at the University of Michigan. During her fellowship training, she obtained a master's degree in clinical research design and statistical analysis from the University of Michigan's Rackham Graduate School.

Suskind is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Tough to rate "problem/condition" as Dr. Suskind is still trying to help work out what's actually going on, thus, hard to give absolute clarity on the "problem/condition"!

Dr. Suskind is a very kind, very hard-working, dedicated and caring provider. She listens to your concerns and does her best to address them. Top notch Physician!!!

This has been a lifelong problem for me and in the past, care by urologists was absurd. Dr Suskind is one of the few urologists who truly works for females with incontinence-along with UCSF's Brown, who pioneered the pelvic floor in ob/gyn.I am told people come from other states for Dr Suskind's care-as they should! Kudos to UCSF Urology.

She kept stating my problem and that wasn't what I was there for her to help me with. I corrected her twice and she kept saying my problem was something else (I was coming for bladder burning, she kept saying I had frequent and painful urine. I do not) . She offered no real solutions only things that could possible help for something other than what I was coming to see her for. When I reiterated why the other doctor sent me to her (Burning bladder, atypical cells in my urine, blood in my urine), she said, "oh I don't do that"

Dr Suskind spent an extended amount of time with me to go over concerns that were not specifically related to the procedure I had that day. She is clear in her explanation, kind, and caring. I am extremely grateful to have access to the quality of care that she provides.

Dr. Susskind may be an excellent surgeon. And her demeanor is lovely. But she wasn't great at presenting the kind of information that would help me understand the experience I was about to undergo, the risks, the benefits, potential complications, the impact of the surgeries on my work life or my quality of life generally. She'd give me a bare bones overview then ask, "Any questions?" but I'd sit there thinking, I know so little, what am I getting into? It's hard to come up with questions in the moment when there's so much you don't know. I've ended up relying on the internet! Yikes!

Overall Dr Suskind knows her stuff. However, in terms of a warm patient - doctor relationship I found her quite cold and uncaring. Not anyone willing to go the extra mile for her patients. Her plans were very sound which of course is very important.

Though the exam room was unexpectedly tight & small, Dr. Anne Suskind (urologist) was young, friendly, willing to listen, knowledgable who came up with new ideas for my constant UTIs.

The provider did not affirm that I had gone through a difficult illness and frustrating medical experience prior to UCSF. When I asked: "How will this plan identify the root cause of my issue?" my practitioner responded, "I don't understand what you mean." When I gave examples to clarify this, I was met with "this is our standard of care" to shut the conversation down. I was disappointed because I chose UCSF precisely because I hoped for practitioners with research experience and a willingness to tailor a personalised approach - especially for women's health issues not often taken seriously in a medical context. I did not find the provider forthcoming on options (rarely do these issues have one simple solution) and I had to probe to get any further information on my options/risks/benefits.
