A. Sydney Williams

MD

Ophthalmologist and glaucoma specialist
Jazz pianist, skier and second-generation UCSF doctor

Dr. A. Sydney Williams is an ophthalmologist who specializes in treating glaucoma. Resisting the increasing computerization of medicine, he prioritizes the care of his patients and enjoys teaching medical students, residents and physicians pursuing fellowships in glaucoma.

Williams earned his medical degree at Howard University College of Medicine and completed his residency in ophthalmology at UCSF. He completed a fellowship in glaucoma at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School.

Williams followed in the professional footsteps of his father, an ophthalmologist who also served on the faculty at UCSF. Prior to joining UCSF himself, Williams worked at Stanford University as an director of the glaucoma service before going into private practice, where he worked for 26 years.

In his free time, Williams loves playing jazz piano and skiing.
