Dr. Giovanni Elia is a palliative care doctor. He cares for hospitalized patients who have life-altering or terminal illnesses.

Elia's research focuses on using information technology and quality interventions to improve patient care.

Elia earned his medical degree from the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome. He completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in pelvic surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He also completed a fellowship in gynecologic urology at the University of Southern California and a fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine at the San Diego Hospice and the Institute for Palliative Medicine.

Elia is a member of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and America Medical Association.

In his free time, Elia enjoys sailing.
