Dr. Leslie C. West is a neurologist and sleep medicine specialist who cares for patients with neurological disorders and sleep disorders. West has a special interest in conditions at the intersection of neurology and sleep medicine, such as REM sleep behavior disorder (in which vivid dreams are accompanied by vocalization and sudden movements) and narcolepsy (which involves intense daytime sleepiness and sudden weakness episodes).

West's research focuses on sleep and movement disorders, with the goal of discovering new treatments. Her current research looks at deep brain stimulation for patients with Parkinson's disease and the therapy's impact on sleep.

West earned a bachelor's and master's degree at Johns Hopkins University and her medical degree at Central Michigan University. She completed a residency in neurology at the University of California, Davis, where she served as chief resident. She completed a fellowship in sleep medicine at Stanford University.

    Dr. West was very personable and thorough. I felt that she took the time to listen to me which doesn't always happen from my experience. I appreciate that very much. I only hope that the next step in the process happens soon. It seems like there may be a bit of a wait which will be unfortunate. Having sleep challenges can really mess up your world.

    I saw Dr West as a second opinion and the difference between the two neurologists was night and day. Dr West was outstanding at her job. Highly skilled efficient and excellent bedside manner. Her treatment of my condition helped me tremendously.

    Dr. West spends time on getting to know my complex history listens to what other providers recommend collaborates across specialties and adopts a shared decision making approach with her patients. I am so happy that I switched my care from Stanford to UCSF and established long term care with her.

    The doctor I saw was a specialist but once she believed that my medical problem was not in her specialty she was eager to leave. She ordered a test but didn't believe it would show anything. Her advice was that I should go back to my primary care physician.

    The neurologist I met with was excellent. However since I am out if state she could not provide a treatment plan and referred me to my own neurologist for follow up. Had I known this I would not have extended my stay in California.

    Dr. West was extremely professional yet easy to relate to and was forthcoming with information about my tests and issues. She did not rush through appointment and took time to answer all questions. I would highly recommend her to others.

    Rare to have a physician listen as well and take in the information being offered rather than "processing the issue next patient" mindset. It truly felt a co-created diagnosis and action plan allowing me to be a partner in the process understanding from the inside.

    She was the first neurologist that I saw that thoroughly explained everything going on & why she wanted to put me on certain medication & what my diagnosis is. She was very friendly & attentive most neurologists aren't friendly or take the time to explain plan of action.

    Only take away here is the provider ordered labs for me to complete and didn't not let me know they would be fasting. I drove all the way to Walnut Creek and was not able to complete the test.
