Dr. Stuart Menaker is a family physician with a special interest in caring for families that include children and adolescents and for patients with men's health concerns. He also enjoys performing minor office procedures, such as removal of skin lesions, insertion or removal of intrauterine devices, vasectomies, and joint injections to relieve inflammation as well as other types of injections.

Menaker believes in the value of taking a team approach to keeping patients healthy, with the individual patient serving as captain of the team. In addition to caring for patients at UCSF, he is a senior medical examiner for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Menaker earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and completed his residency in family medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. After working for 10 years in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, he moved to California to practice at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation.

For Menaker, moving to San Francisco and joining UCSF has been the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.

    Dr. Menaker has a good "bedside" manner if that's the term to use. He includes his own experiences with some of his personal medical issues to give me a better perspective on diagnoses treatments and future items of concern for my overall well-being.

    Dr Menaker has my health and wellbeing as first priority. I feel like I'm a partner in my own healthcare with him as my PCP. My overall experience with Dr Menaker and with UCSF in general has been outstanding. I consider the last 2 years I've been with UCSF as the best healthcare I've had in my life.

    The care provider ignored my request to be on a smaller dose of my prescription. The way they explained my depression to me felt unintentionally patronizing. The care providers reasoning for keeping my at my current prescription dosage was that I'm depressed and said that he couldn't take me off of the medication despite that I never asked to be taken off just for the dose to be lowered so that I could address my anxiety (which is a symptom of the prescription)

    My first time seeing Dr Menaker. I found him very personable easy to talk to very thorough in his examination and comprehensive in is explanation of my issue and home exercises. For me it was a very positive experience and I left feeling relieved.

    Truly the best primary care doctor I've ever had. Dr. Menaker goes above and beyond to not only develop a comprehensive understanding of me as a patient but also provide stat driven recommendations. I've been very impressed with my interactions with the doctor and am thankful for his feedback and his efforts to consult with his peers to discover the best options if he doesn't have it already. I know I am in great care and trust this doctor whole heartedly.

    Dr. Menaker is an ideal Dr. from the little things like rolling the Epic workstation closer to the chair where I sat to create a comfortable and connected conversation to his overall bedside manner and knowledge. (I liked his joke about reaching goals noting how he did not go to medical school to get all B's. LOL!) He's also a great listener.

    Limitation is that surgeon I saw--like almost all surgeons I've ever seen--cannot engage intellectually with non-surgical aspects of my case. It's obvious that surgery depts. In Medical schools and teaching hospitals place very little value on this (even if they have learned to demonstrate lip service to it).

    Dr Menaker is excellent. He has a very friendly caring professional manner that puts me at ease. He explains things very thoroughly. I am particularly impressed that he gives excellent nutritional and dietary advice something that is not usually provided when I speak to other medical staff at UCSF. I am always impressed when meeting with him. He listens carefully and his positive supportive attitude to a patient with cancer is very welcome.

    Dr. Menaker is a very good listener. A few years ago he suggested that I change my cholesterol medication that I have been taking for several years (prescribed by a different physician) and that appeared to be effective. I am glad he pushed me to learn more about the medication he recommended and I am glad I switched.

    I left my former primary care center that I was part of for 35yrs to go to the China Basin Primary Care Clinic and be a patient of Dr Menaker's. It was a very good decision and I know I won't regret it
