Dr. Geoffrey Buckle is a medical oncologist who specializes in caring for patients with gastrointestinal cancers.

Buckle's research focuses on improving outcomes for people with cancer in underserved settings, with a particular focus on the growing cancer burden in sub-Saharan Africa. He studies region-specific risk factors for cancer and is working on developing ways to improve early cancer detection.

Buckle earned his medical degree at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in medical oncology at UCSF. He also completed a master of public health degree at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Buckle is a member of the UCSF Global Cancer Program, American Society of Clinical Oncology and African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer. In 2022, he received a Global Oncology Young Investigator Award from the Conquer Cancer Foundation of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

    At this appointment Dr. Buckle summarized what we've learned from the diagnostics and the Tumor Board. His explanation and recommendation for treatment was clear and well-supported by data. He answered all my questions and helped me feel confident that this is the best treatment option for me. I'm very thankful for all of the work he did to develop his recommendation.

    Dr. Buckle's concern for the patient's quality of life is so comforting and reassuring. He explains all options that might be available for my care/treatments without pushing any particular option but only helping me to understand the options available.     I was very pleased with Dr. Buckle. He did an excellent job explaining and was patient and listened to and answered all of our questions. He has excellent bedside manner and communication skills. He was also very knowledgeable, kind and caring. The whole process at UCSF was excellent.
