Dr. Keaton Piper is a neurosurgeon who specializes in minimally invasive cranial neurosurgery (treating conditions of the brain and nearby structures). He has a particular interest in functional neurosurgery (procedures to improve nervous system function), such as deep brain stimulation, high-intensity focused ultrasound, epilepsy surgery, intraoperative brain mapping, computer-brain interfaces, treatments for trigeminal neuralgia (a condition featuring intense facial pain) and neurosurgical approaches to complex pain.
In research, Piper's wide-ranging interests include surgery to address trigeminal neuralgia, epilepsy surgery, Chiari malformation, and computer-brain interfaces. He has studied the use of augmented reality technology in cranial tumor surgery, epilepsy surgery and neuromodulation.
Piper earned his medical degree at the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry, where he was awarded a distinction in both community health and research. He completed a residency in neurosurgery at the University of South Florida, followed by a fellowship in functional neurosurgery at UCSF and a fellowship in skull-base surgery at Lehigh Valley Health Network.
