Dr. Mandar Aras is a cardiologist who specializes in advanced heart disease and heart failure. He cares for patients who have undergone heart transplants and those with left ventricular assist devices, which are implanted mechanical pumps used in end-stage heart failure to help circulate blood from the heart to the rest of the body. In addition, he has a particular interest in treating patients with heart failure induced by chemotherapy.

Aras also treats patients with pulmonary hypertension and right-sided heart failure, a condition that causes blood to back up in the veins and results in swelling of the abdomen and legs.

The goal of Aras' research is to better understand the molecular and genetic mechanisms of heart failure and cardiomyopathy, a condition in which the heart muscle becomes enlarged and weak.

Aras earned his medical degree as well as a doctoral degree in neurobiology from the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He then completed a residency in internal medicine at the Duke University Medical Center, followed by fellowships at UCSF in cardiovascular medicine and in advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology.

    About our process

Dr. Aras is a wonderful physician. He made me and my family feel very comfortable; explained things clearly; never rushed or made us feel hurried; and encouraged questions which he answered thoroughly. I'm thrilled and grateful he's my doctor and managing my care.

Provider was clearly short on time. Kept obviously looking at his watch. And I do know he is busy. What would have helped enormously would have been if his nurse would have stayed behind to answer all my questions. These questions were eventually answered via the messaging option.

I would easily recommend Dr Aras but the significant delay in available appointments is a deep concern.

I have a complex medical history including amyloidosis, a stem cell transplant, and ongoing hematological monitoring. All this set the context for the cardiac MRI. I was able to provide this background
