Pronouns: She | Her | Hers

Melissa Anne Valdellon Mark is a nurse practitioner who cares for patients with gynecologic cancers. She works closely with many types of specialists on the cancer care teams for both the hospital and clinic, as well as with OB-GYN residents, and her duties include providing postsurgical care, chemotherapy, symptom management and developing discharge plans. Her experience and professional interests include surgical and medical nursing care, critical care, palliative care and women's health. As gynecologic oncology combines all of these specialties, Mark believes it's her perfect match.

Mark earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, and her master's degree in nursing from Thomas Jefferson University. She moved to San Francisco and joined the UCSF gynecologic oncology team in 2011. She received a UCSF award for excellence in oncology in 2017 and has almost 20 years of nursing experience.

The proud mom of a toddler, Mark enjoys supporting her guitarist husband's Oakland band, the Riot Professor. In her free time, she likes being outdoors, traveling and listening to live music. Despite her years in the Bay Area, she remains a Philly sports fan through and through.

Working in oncology is gratifying and humbling. We don't always know how we impact our patients, and they don't realize the impact they have on us.
