Sumant Ranji, MD

Dr. Sumant Ranji is a hospitalist who coordinates the care of hospital patients in general medicine and intensive care units at UCSF Medical Center. In his research, he focuses on improving the safety and quality of care for hospitalized patients. He also serves as the associate program director for Quality and Safety for the Internal Medicine Residency Program.

Ranji earned a medical degree at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Chicago Hospitals and was chief resident at Cook County Hospital. He also completed a fellowship in hospital medicine and clinical research at UCSF. Ranji is a member of the American College of Physicians, Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine and Society of Hospital Medicine. In 2009, he received the UCSF Floyd C. Rector Housestaff Teaching Award and in 2010, he was named a fellow of the American College of Physicians. He is a professor of clinical medicine at UCSF.
