As part of its Look Good, Feel Better program, Friend to Friend offers services such as wig styling and trimming and consultations with a makeup and skin care expert. Makeup consultations are available on the first Monday of the month. Get makeup tips and learn how to pamper your skin so you can look and feel your best.
Thanks to the generosity of Joe Friend, who donated funds in honor of his late wife Ida, the boutique opened its doors in 1998 in a small space on Sutter Street in San Francisco. Later, it moved to the cancer center at 1600 Divisadero Street, and in 2020, a second location opened in the Precision Cancer Medicine Building at Mission Bay.
The store is a project of UCSF Partners in Care, a nonprofit organization that helps fund patient care and family support services at UCSF. A portion of the profits on every purchase goes to the Friend to Friend Fund, which supports programs and services for indigent women who need cancer-related products.
The shop also accepts donated wigs that are clean and in good condition. Wigs are passed along to patients who can't afford to buy a new one.
Cancer center patients and friends volunteer as sales assistants and cashiers.
