Our pelvic physiology services

We help you manage pelvic floor challenges with advanced diagnostic tools and effective therapies, including:

  • Anorectal manometry. During this 30-minute procedure, we use a small straw-like catheter to test the muscles that work together to produce a bowel movement. The results help us confirm or rule out certain pelvic floor conditions, such as Hirschsprung's disease, so we can plan your treatment.

  • Endoanal ultrasound. Our providers use a small ultrasound to evaluate the internal and external function of the anal sphincter. We also look for signs of anal fistulas.

Treatments
  • Biofeedback therapy. This therapy helps you regain control of the rectum, anal sphincter and pelvic floor muscles. We often use this effective, drug-free approach for constipation and fecal incontinence treatment. You receive biofeedback therapy monthly for six to eight months.

  • Lifestyle changes. We provide nutritional counseling and relaxation techniques that may help reduce symptoms of pelvic floor conditions.

  • Electrical stimulation therapy. This noninvasive treatment uses small electrical currents to strengthen pelvic floor muscles.

  • Pelvic floor physical therapy. We may coordinate your care with a pelvic floor physical therapist. You learn techniques to help relax or strengthen your pelvic floor muscles.

  • Medications. We may recommend suppositories (medication placed in the rectum or vagina) to help relax pelvic muscles.

  • Botox injections. Our providers offer Botox injections when other treatments, like biofeedback therapy, are not enough.

Pelvic floor conditions often require long-term treatment. We provide a supportive, consistent environment to help you reach your recovery goals.
