HIV Women's Program
The UCSF HIV Women's Program provides culturally sensitive expert care for HIV-infected women and their children, who may or may not be HIV positive. The program addresses the concern that HIV-positive women often neglect their own medical needs because they're caring for dependents.
The service was established under the direction of Dr. Ruth Greenblatt, an infectious disease specialist, and now is directed by Dr. Edward Machtinger, an internist and HIV specialist.
Our services include:
- Access to extensive social, legal and housing services
- Health care for mothers and their children
- Opportunities to enroll in clinical trials
The team includes experts in infectious disease, obstetrics, gynecology and pediatrics, as well as developmental psychologists and psychotherapists, nutritionists, pharmacists and social workers. Volunteer lawyers provide legal advice on issues such as workers' rights, guardianship and estate planning.
