Rebooting Kimberly’s Brain

Published August 2023

When Kimberly Bari suddenly developed seizures as a young teacher in China, medication failed to control her epilepsy. After developing an allergic reaction to one of her treatments, Kimberly turned to the experts at UCSF for help. Today, Kimberly is nearly seizure-free and is able to work and live independently. Watch Kimberly's story to see how her UCSF team used a combination of brain mapping and responsive neurostimulation (RNS) to bring her seizures under control.

How Kimberly got her brain back

"It was always me and my brain, and we were always fighting," Kimberly says of her epilepsy. One day she was rushed to the ER at UCSF, where she met the team of neurologists who would save her.
