Dr. Daniel Thuillier is an orthopedic surgeon who cares for patients with foot and ankle conditions. He places high value on the doctor-patient relationship and is dedicated to providing innovative, individualized care in and out of the operating room.

Thuillier has been the Roger Mann, MD Endowed Chair in Foot and Ankle Surgery since 2024. In research, his interests include ankle instability, post-traumatic ankle arthritis and ankle replacement surgery. During his training, he studied the biomechanics of cartilage. He is active in teaching medical students and residents.

Thuillier earned his medical degree and completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at UCSF. He completed a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at Harborview Medical Center, part of the University of Washington health care system.

Thuillier is a Bay Area native, born in San Francisco and raised in Oakland. He is currently a team physician for the Oakland Roots.

    As to instructions: I had hoped to find after-visit notes in my UCSF patient portal. Dr Thullier and Dr Khan gave me two orthopedic solutions brochures, but I lost them during my travels back home (I don't live in the Bay Area). Unfortunately, my memory isn't helping me recall all that was said to me druing my appointment, so follow-up notes in my patient portal would have been helpful.

    Care provider was exemplary. He was attentive, performed physical examination, listened to questions and concerns, Gave use all the time we needed. We did not feel rushed to finish the visit even though it went into after the hours of operation.

    Dr T is wonderful. I wish all my doctors were like him. Feels like he has reviewed my files and remembers who I am, what my condition and specific experience has been. Always gives me his full attention. Never feels rushed. Addresses my questions fully. Is not dismissive or condescending. Lets me know he is here if I have further questions/issues.     I cannot say enough about Dr. Thuillier and his crew (especially Stephen and Demi). Every visit has been a positive experience. 2 years ago I was a cancer patient, and still carry some medical-visit trauma from that, but everyone's been so amazing that I was at ease the entire time. The treatment has been effective, and thanks to you guys I'm healing ahead of schedule. Dr. Rick Coughlin was an important part of connecting me with you, and he definitely made the right choice.     This Dr. Is awesome!! I have been seen by many Drs and have been misdiagnosed, then refered to another Dr. Repeatedly! Dr. Thullier, was the first Dr. Who told me the truth, and what he recommended was surgery to correct my ankle. Thank you for this great Dr. I wish there were more deticated Dr's like him.

    At this point, one year plus after surgery, I have no pain and am totally functional. I was relieved to hear there were no problems with the replacement and my bone as I have osteopenia. Dr. T. Said it should last my lifetime. Yea!

    I was impressed with the entire UCSF operation. Everything ran smoothly---Dr. Thuillier actually saw me 10 minutes BEFORE my scheduled appointment time, A first for me...and he indicated ZERO sense of being rushed or in a hurry to move on to others. You wanted new xrays---and that whole thing was very quick and easy.

    Although he talk to me for 25 minutes, I felt he was very removed with lack of empathy. His exam was minimal for a situation that I have had for 20 years that has caused me quite a bit of distress. His visit notes were incorrect, stating that I had no scars when I did, etc.
