Dr. Gopal Lalchandani is an orthopedic surgeon who cares for patients of all ages with upper extremity (from the elbow to the fingertip) injuries and conditions. He specializes in acute upper limb trauma and post-traumatic reconstruction of complex injuries. He also cares for a variety of other conditions affecting the upper extremities, including sports-related injuries, arthritis, carpal tunnel, tendon lacerations and ligament injuries. He also treats pediatric congenital hand disorders and complex elbow injuries.

Lalchandani's research focuses on wide-awake hand surgery (surgery with local anesthesia), distal radius fractures (broken wrists) and outcomes after upper extremity surgery.

Lalchandani earned his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He completed a residency in orthopedic surgery UCSF, where he served as chief resident. He completed a fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston Children's Hospital, and Massachusetts General Hospital.

Lalchandani grew up in Sacramento, California. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, skiing and spending time with his family.

    If there were a rating higher than a 5, Dr. Lalchandani would earn it. Dr. Lalchandani listens carefully and does his homework. I can tell he remembers my case and providing thoughtful treatment. I feel it is a conversation when I sit with him.He includes a careful physical exam with new studies and updated history. He is efficient, but I do not feel rushed.Dr. Lalchandani is able to look me in the eye and tell me honestly about my progress and prognosis.I hope UCSF values Dr. Lalchandani's Talent!

    Would like more detailed information about after surgery requirements and way of healing. What the pain would be like and how long it would take to be able house my right wrist and hand.

    Dr. Lalshandani asks great questions and provides easy to understand responses to my questions. I just read my AVS notes - I appreciate his detail. Also, he's incredibly nice. That's always a plus when receiving any kind of medical care.

    Dr. Lalchandani is an excellent provider. He listens well and answers thoughtfully. He values collaboration and talked with both my shoulder doctor and my hand therapist on the morning of my appointment. He is continuing his attention even through complexities in my case.

    Dr. Lalchandani is a talented provider. He puts listening first. He covers a lot in a short time, by tree I do not feel rushed. I left with a better understanding of my healing and a a step-wise plan.

    Simply excellent only feedback as he wanted me to come back in three weeks but there wasn't anything available for four weeks and I don't think he realizes how hard it is to get to see your hand therapist, although I lucked out because there was cancellation I was able to get in right away away

    What a nice fellow, was my dr. If only I'd thought to request a shot of anti-nausea med, since I had been so severely nauseated for days, & I couldn't sit up. I was treated well, but still went home to vomit for hours.

    Got double charged for x-rays. Waited 2 hours for x-rays at mission bay only to show up at the same UCSF location and you said they had to be retaken when you really misplaced them. Provider was dismissive, unhelpful and a complete waste of time. Do other UCSF locations not work with each other?
