Dr. Jonathan Lu is an ophthalmologist and oculofacial plastic surgeon who cares for patients with
conditions requiring eye surgery, including droopy eyelids, watery eyes, facial injuries affecting the eye,
tumors near the eye, orbital inflammation and eye socket diseases (such as thyroid eye disease). He also
provides rejuvenation procedures to address cosmetic concerns.
Lu's research interests include thyroid eye disease, eye cancer and conditions that cause orbital
inflammation. He is also interested in applying artificial intelligence, including machine learning, in
plastic surgery for the eye area, as well as in how to optimize surgical outcomes.
Lu earned his medical degree at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine. He completed a
medical transitional year at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, followed by a residency in
ophthalmology at the University of Southern California, with training at Los Angeles General Medical
Center. He completed a fellowship in oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery at Harvard Medical
School, training at Massachusetts Eye and Ear.
Lu was born and raised in California and calls it his home.
