Dr. Nathan Karp is a rheumatologist who cares for patients with a range of autoimmune and musculoskeletal conditions. He has special interests in diagnosing and managing types of inflammatory arthritis (such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and gout), myositis (conditions involving inflamed and weak muscles), vasculitis (inflammation of blood vessels) and lupus. He is passionate about clear and open communication with patients and believes that shared decision-making between providers and patients is particularly critical in his field. In addition to caring for patients, he directs quality improvement for the rheumatology clinics and teaches medical students, residents and fellows.
At UCSF, Karp earned his medical degree, completed a residency in internal medicine and completed a fellowship in rheumatology.
