Dr. Samuel L. Washington III is a urologic surgeon who specializes in oncology. He cares for patients with cancers of the genital and urinary organs, including prostate, bladder and kidney cancers.

In his research, Washington studies patient outcomes after cancer treatment, looking particularly at how differences in treatment impact survival outcomes for individuals with genital and urinary cancers.

Washington earned his medical degree, completed a residency in urology and completed a fellowship in urologic oncology at UCSF. He also has a master of advanced study degree in clinical research from UCSF.

    There was also a long delay after my first visit. I was supposed to be contacted in 3 to 4 weeks I called after five weeks and found out that nothing had happened.

    Dr. Samuel Washington in my opinion sets "The Gold Standard" for professionalism as well as in his ability to educate the patient in a compassionate and empathetic manner - which is not very common anymore in the healthcare industry. What also sets Dr. Washington apart from most doctors is how he uses the results of data from research in his patient consultations.

    This was a first contact call prior to referral to another specialist for a more detailed consultation. I was disappointed that the physician had not yet been able to view my CT scan.

    Since I am so ignorant of the problem the care provider now the 2nd visit after 1st one some 2 years ago took me further into details of MRI then done and furthered my comprehension of what is happening and what so far seems to be the best way to go to deal with an ongoing test problem that seems to indicate a very serious problem. But now a week later I have new questions that was not delt with 3 of great importance to me to be able to continue with plans care giver recommended.

    I like Dr. Washington. He's very nice. But sometimes I feel mildly frustrated that he doesn't provide direct answers to questions whose answers are probably not what I want to hear but are answers that feel like avoidance of saying an answer I wouldn't like. I.E.: Can I pay extra to be knocked out for the biopsy? Instead of just a straight up "No you can not." (Apparently) he says things I already know from our conversation: "I will deaden the prostate with lidocaine..." when from everything I hear the biopsy is still incredibly "uncomfortable." It's a very minor irksome bedside manner strategy I'm sure is taught to all physicians but I just personally prefer very direct to-the-point answers.
