Dr. Shawn Torres is a primary care doctor with expertise in preventing, diagnosing and treating chronic disorders. She has a special interest in relieving chronic conditions through lifestyle changes. Her approach is to see her patients as whole people, taking their physical, mental and social health into account while working to understand and address any illness.

Torres is passionate about reducing health inequities in Spanish-speaking communities. She is also interested in improving doctor training and how doctors deliver care.

Torres earned her medical degree at UCSF. She completed a residency in primary care at NYU Langone Health.

Outside of work, Torres enjoys hiking, cycling, traveling, gardening, and spending time with her husband and dog.

    I have consistently rated Shawn Torres the highest ratings on these questions. She really does spend a lot of time with me explaining checking for understanding providing information I can actually use.

    My Dr came right on concerned about the issues and symptoms of my condition and was sure of what treatments I need very understanding and clear to correct anything that I was not sure about and answered any questions. I was reassured and made comfortable. Looking forward for my follow up appointments.

    Dr. Torres is a very sympathetic listener. I felt very cared for. She worked out why my previous treatment hadn't been effective and explained it very well. We discussed moving forward with new testing that had previously been ruled out. My whole experience with Dr. Torres engendered confidence in my care.

    This is about the 3rd or 4th in-person visit with Shawn and she consistently exemplifies all of the great things about communication and empathy with me. In one Issue where we needed to decided "treat or not to treat" we had a good dialog about the pros and cons. Another was exploring why a certain test result was so different from previous results. I appreciated talking through different factors which ultimately led to a stronger understand of what happened. I will add that I did take a bit more time with her and she was very good at needing to move on to her other patient.

    Dr. Torres is an amazing physician who really demonstrated all of the great communication skills and compassion that I haven't had in a long time from a Primary Care Physician. I felt that she really looked at the whole picture of what was going on with me in a thoughtful way shared and validated her Insights & hypotheses with me throughout the visit. At the end of the visit she summarized next steps very clearly and wow'ed me with a thorough well-written After Visit Summary that appeared the next day (perhaps the same day) in MyChart.

    Dr. Torres is a wonderful doctor -- I wish I could rate her higher than merely "Very Good." My issue is obesity; I always say it takes a lifetime of dieting to wind up as fat as I am. My doctors have been harsh and mean. But Dr. Torres is kind and gentle. She says that losing weight is a hard long business and that she's here to help and support me on my journey. After my visit she sent me a link to an AHA tutorial on taking your blood pressure at home. I feel so lucky to have her and I think that with her help I can actually do better on my weight loss marathon than I've ever been able to do before. I'm so grateful to have her on my side. Thank you UCSF!

    Dr. Shawn Laura Torres is maybe the best physician I've encountered in terms of knowledge AND caring. UCSF is lucky to have hired her.

    Provider did not discuss whether there are other options than sending me to the ER. In hindsight I would have taken a wait and see approach
