Dr. Steven Nguyen, who goes by Sen, is a family doctor who provides comprehensive care for patients of all ages. They aim to forge partnerships with their patients, creating a space where individuals and families feel heard. They have particular interests in trauma-informed care (an approach that takes into account past traumatic experiences), gender-affirming care (treatments that help transgender and nonbinary individuals align their lives with their gender identity), health equity and reproductive health.

Nguyen earned their medical degree at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. They completed a residency in family medicine at the University of New Mexico and served as chief resident in their final year. Before coming to UCSF, they worked at a community health center that provides medical care for all patients regardless of ability to pay.

Nguyen is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and World Professional Association for Transgender Health.

    Dr. Nguyen was very prompt in having this call and asked detailed questions and discussed options and was very good. His prescribing medications has helped me tremendously and the conditions are now much better.

    Doctor was up to date with my medical records and concerns. He was patient throughout the session. He listened well and explained effectively proposed options and next steps with clarity. .

    Again I cannot express enough that Dr. Nguyen is a very good doctor. He is also the primary care physician for my daughters and son-in-law.

    Less so the fault of the provider but UCSF's reliance on outdated standards from the Endocrine Society is ridiculous and I will most likely being choosing to continue my care elsewhere.

    Dr Nguyen was the best physician I have seen hands down. I have waited 20 years to find a physician that was escorted in trans health issues who would listen and explain who let me feel heard and then work with me in partnership for my health care and program. I cannot express how both appreciative and impressed I was with their knowledge and care shown to me as a new patient. Thank you SO much

    Dr. Nguyen is phenomenal. They was very attentive and answered all of my questions and concerns. They was clear with the medical plan going further and reminded me of how I can contact them should anything arise.

    I came in for trigger injection treatment for my fibromyalgia pain in the front part of my shoulder joint area. The doctor mainly focused on my shoulder muscle connected to my neck. I had mentioned twice that my pain was on the front area of my shoulder. I pointed to him twice. Needless to say he did not treat that area. And I have experienced extreme pain the entire weekend And I am very unhappy. I was excited to receive the trigger point injection therapy for this pain that has been bothering me for months without resolution! The doctor was extremely nice and yes my right shoulder muscle connected to my neck is OK but that was not my primary concern . Now I have to suffer sleepless nights due to the pain and hope I am able to receive treatment where it hurts. Again the doctor was extremely nice but my primary pain was not addressed

    Dr. Nguyen was very polite and understanding and they asked useful questions to help me give them all the information they needed for my care. They clearly listened to my concerns and made me feel that my questions and concerns were worth discussing. They were an excellent doctor and I would highly recommend them to most trans people in San Francisco.

    I'm very happy to have our family now under the care of Dr. Nguyen. Transitioning to a new physician with lots of issues and changes happening in my personal health journey recently made me nervous but my consultation couldn't have been better. The patience compassion professionalism and understanding shown made me feel incredibly heard validated and cared for. I look forward to working together to further improve my conditions.
