Empowering survivors, changing lives
Finishing cancer treatment means getting a new start. Our cancer survivorship and wellness team provides specialized services for survivors who have completed their cancer treatment journey at UCSF Health. From symptom management to support groups, you'll find the resources and experts you need to feel empowered as you transition from active treatment to active living.
The end of cancer treatment often leaves people with mixed emotions. You may feel alone or unprepared for what comes next. We understand, and we'll answer your questions and help you with any complicated feelings that arise during this time. Our compassionate providers work closely with your oncologist, primary care doctor and other specialists to ensure you receive coordinated care.
Our approach to cancer survivorship is based on the latest research and national treatment guidelines. We're committed to studying the many ways cancer affects people's lives so we can improve care for survivors, now and in the future.
Our services for cancer survivors
Our cancer survivorship program offers:
-
Individual treatment sessions. You meet with a nurse practitioner or physician assistant specializing in survivorship. We tailor your care based on the type and stage of cancer you had, treatments you received and your overall health.
-
Symptom management. We address the long-term and late effects of cancer treatment, such as pain, fatigue and neuropathy (nerve damage). If needed, we refer you to the right specialists for your symptoms.
-
Education and support. Connect with other survivors at our yearly retreats, ongoing seminars and eight-week Survivorship Wellness Group Program.
Group wellness program
The Survivorship Wellness Group Program, offered by UCSF Health's psycho-oncology team, is an eight-week program focused on helping cancer survivors optimize their health after treatment.
The program connects you with dietitians, social workers, psychologists, chaplains, health coaches and exercise counselors. We help you set goals related to nutrition, physical activity, stress management, sleep and overall wellness.
