Increasingly, people with cancer are surviving their disease, and many of them want to have children. Cancer treatment can affect the reproductive systems of both men and women, making conception difficult. However, new treatment options have made it possible for many cancer survivors to conceive.

The UCSF Fertility Preservation Program is focused on quickly providing you with the information you need to make educated decisions about your fertility preservation options prior to cancer treatment. With a dedicated medical team that is at the forefront in fertility preservation, and one of the most highly respected certified embryology laboratories in the nation, we are uniquely qualified to offer the latest treatments, so you can build a family when you are ready.

Time is often critical when making decisions about fertility preservation options, and we understand that patients may have a very limited window between diagnosis and beginning cancer treatment. If you have a recent cancer diagnosis, we will see you within 24 to 48 hours of that diagnosis. Please call the Fertility Preservation Program directly at (415) 353-9115 to make an appointment.

Our board-certified reproductive endocrinologists have completed subspecialty training in fertility preservation for cancer patients. Our team also includes a certified embryology laboratory staff with expertise in cryopreservation, specially trained nurses, a psychologist, a genetic counselor and a large administrative support staff.

We collaborate closely with our patients' cancer specialists no matter where they are located. We have existing relationships with oncologists in the Bay Area and throughout the country who are aware of the necessity of quickly integrating your fertility preservation choices into your cancer care.

We preserve fertility in patients with any type of cancer, including breast, colon, head and neck, gynecological and hematological malignancies, as well as hereditary cancer syndromes and other medical conditions whose treatment may impact fertility. Each patient's situation is unique, and we create individualized treatment plans to address specific needs.
